Three additional Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) have been deployed to assist in the conduct of tomorrow’s supplementary governorship election in Kano State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State, Professor Shehu Risqua, disclosed this, yesterday, during a press briefing, where he said the RECs deployed include those of Kebbi, Ogun and Zamfara states.
According to him, the officers were deployed to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for an effective conduct of the supplementary election in the state.
They will return to their states at the end of the exercise, he said.
While updating the public on the supplementary elections, he said elections would take place in 279 polling points located in 207 polling units, in 75 registration areas and spread across 28 local government areas of the state, with 128, 324 registered voters.
Prof. Risqua said election in these areas were cancelled during the March 9 governorship election due to either violence or over-voting or due to the incident of both irregularities.
He said INEC would deploy one Card Reader for each polling unit, and that arrangements have been made for backup for each of them.
Prof. Risqua also explained that the Commission is putting in everything to ensure a successful election.
He also said movement of sensitive and non-sensitive materials to the affected areas by morning, today.
“We are working hard to ensure we do not have disruptions as much as possible.
“We have had meetings with the political parties and we have appealed to them; that we operate an open door policy and we are reacy to do any within the law to be fair to all” he noted and also, stated that they have been reassured by the police that there are enough security personnel for the supplementary poll in the state.
