…Fail to beat Guinea Bissau

Thunder struck twice at the same spot at the Moshood Abiola stadium, Abuja, when the senior national team, the Super Eagles, lost to lower rated visiting Guinea Bissau in the Africa Nations Cup qualifier on Friday.

The team broke the heart of the Abuja fans last year when they lost to visiting Black Stars of Ghana which denied them the ticket to the Qatar FIFA World Cup.

The visitors shut the mouth of the spectators at the half-parked stadium when they drew the first blood in the 28 minutes of the game against the run of play through their forward, Mama Samba Balde.

It was such a drab encounter for the home side as their efforts fail to produce any positive result throughout the first half despite several incursions into the goal area of the visitors.

To register their disappointments, almost all the spectators that passed through the eye of the needle to gain entrance into the stadium left in droves in anger.

Before the resumption, the embattled Eagles technical adviser, Jose Peseiro, made two tactical substitutions, removing Kelechi Iheanacho and Lukman made way for the duo of Paul Onwuachu and Moses Simon.

In the 47th minute, the Egyptian referee incurred the wrath of the Abuja spectators when he failed to award penalty to the Eagles when the visitors handled the ball inside their yard box.

The situation got worse for the Nigerian national team when Germany-based reliable defender, Kevin Akpoguma, was substituted when he substained head injury after a collision with the visitor in the 50th minutes of the game.

The angry Abuja spectators added a comic relief to the game when they threatened legal action against the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) should they fail to refund them their gate fees, complaining the team has left them heartbroken twice.

Many of the sports journalists that reacted to the loss, demanded for the sack of the Eagles technical crew, complaining that dropping some members of the crew especially the local coaches must have contributed to the woeful performance of the team.
