From Scholastica Hirs, Makurdi
Governor of Benue, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has been applauded for successfully shifting the state’s narrative by enacting meaningful reforms in less than one year despite the challenges he inherited upon assumption of office.
Dr. Grace Adagba, executive chairman, Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), who gave the commendation in a solidarity message to the governor on his 58th birthday, said his “extraordinary achievements in just 11 months of governance,”
included the construction of standard roads, installation of street lights in the Makurdi metropolis, procurement and donation of buses to Benue Links Company Ltd., renovation of the state secretariat, and construction of an interchange underpass at High Level Roundabout in the state capital and Gboko as well as the comprehensive reform of the education sector, particularly through SUBEB.
“He has promptly paid salaries and pensions to staff, implemented promotions, and approved matching grants for infrastructural development in schools, thereby breathing new life into basic education schools across the state. The construction of modern office blocks, establishment of the Digital Resource Centre equipped with over 30 computers and provision of solar power, borehole facilities, interlocking of the premises, among others, at SUBEB headquarters have greatly improved the working conditions and resources available to staff.”
She said under Governor Alia’s administration, the Benue SUBEB Debate Team emerged victorious in a bilateral debate competition held in Indonesia organised by The President’s Schools Debate Nigeria (PSDN) in collaboration with the Nigerian and Indonesian Ministries of Education, a victory, which she said marked a milestone achievement in the governor’s determination towards providing quality education for the Benue child and making public zchools more attractive.
Dr. Adagba noted that the governor’s commitment to the state’s welfare extends beyond education as his administration has strengthened security measures, which have contributed to a safer environment for residents.
Additionally, according to the SUBEB boss, Governor Alia’s strategic plans for food production aim to address hunger and boost agricultural productivity across the State.
“In all aspects, Governor Alia’s dedication to serving his people is undeniable. His courageous and hardworking approach to leadership has paved the way for a brighter future in Benue State.
“May this special day be filled with joy and celebration of your achievements. I wish you continued success, good health, and prosperity as you lead our State forward,” Dr. Adagba prayed.
