Strike: NASS on lockdown

From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja

The National Assembly was on lockdown on Monday as the industrial action by organized labour to press for a new minimum wage commenced.

When Daily Sun visited the National Assembly, the main entrance to the parliament was locked and secured. Two coaster buses were parked across the locked gates, with some policemen stationed in front.

Similarly, access to the National Assembly through the annexe and the back gate connecting to the Presidential Villa was also locked.

Workers and legislative staff who turned up for duty could not gain access to the National Assembly Complex as all entrances were blocked. While some workers turned back immediately, others were seen hanging around the security post at the main entrance.

Meanwhile, several public and investigative hearings scheduled by the House of Representatives for Monday, including the “Revenues Monitoring Exercise” organized by the House Committee on Finance, were called off due to the strike.
