- Chase passengers away
From Jude Chinedu, Enugu
The leadership of the organised labour unions including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Monday shutdown the Akanu Ibiam International airport Enugu.
This was to enforce the nationwide strike action declared by NLC and TUC to press home the demand for a substantial review of the national minimum wage.
The Enugu State chapter of the unions had vowed to ensure a total compliance to the strike action in the state.
It was learnt that passengers who had come to board flights to various destinations were chased away by the angry workers.
A last minute attempt by the leadership of the Senate to stop the strike collapsed Sunday night as the government said it cannot go beyond N60,000 minimum wage.
Meanwhile, economic activities in Enugu State was totally paralyzed due to the industrial action.
Both public and private institutions including banks, schools and government offices were under lock and key when Daily Sun visited.
