A pressure group within the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professionals in Osun PDP, has warned former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, to refrain from interfering in party matters in Osun.
The warning followed allegations made by Fayose regarding the party’s flagbearer, Adedamola Adebayo, during an interview on Television Continental (TVC).
In a statement released by the group’s chairman, Sam Segun-Progress, the group expressed its displeasure over Fayose’s comments, describing them as disrespectful to the Osun PDP.
“Our group is not interested in the lies of the former governor concerning the party’s candidate on TVC since the flag bearer’s lawyers are dealing with the defamatory remarks,” Segun-Progress stated.
He emphasised that while the legal matter is being handled, the group wants Fayose to stay out of Osun PDP affairs.
The group alleged that Fayose had not been supporting Osun PDP candidates in critical elections in the past. They recalled that Fayose did not support former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, during the 2014 governorship election. The group alleged that Fayose appeared to have favoured the then candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rauf Aregbesola.
The Professionals in Osun PDP also claimed that Fayose was absent during the 2017 by-election in Osun West Senatorial district, which was won by Senator Ademola Adeleke.
“While we respect Mr Fayose, we plead with him to allow us to manage the rebuilding process we have begun. We do not wish for anything to disrupt our steady return to stability within the party. Therefore, any utterance that may jeopardise this will not be tolerated from any quarter,” the statement said.
