The Vice-Chancellor, Margaret Lawrence University, Abuja, Prof. Ernest Izevbigie, has warned the newly admitted students of the school against engaging in any form of social vices that could earn them a punishment from the school management which could also include outright expulsion.

Prof. Izevbigie gave the warning in Abuja, on Monday, at the third matriculation ceremony of the school where 272 fresh students were formally onboard into various programmes of the school.

The VC in his convocation speech also informed the new students that, in addition to other rules and regulations of the school as highlighted, the usage of smartphones and other internet-enabled devices within the school campus is prohibited, and violation of the rule could attract stiff penalties.

He thus charged the new students to remain focused and strive for academic excellence instead of getting distracted with “irrelevant” things.

Prof. Izevbigie, however, described the 3rd matriculation ceremony as a significant academic tradition that formally admits students into the university community through oath-taking and signing of the matriculation register.

He appreciated the parents and guardians for their trust in the school, assuring them of world class education opportunity that would strengthen the chances of their children make a global impact in any area of their interest.

He further informed the gathering that the institution received its operational licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC) in May 2022, and began academic activities in November 2023, and since them, has continued to expand its academic programmes and infrastructure within a short period.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the university currently runs eight faculties, including Medicine, Law, Engineering, Computing and Environmental Sciences, and Management and Social Sciences.

The Pro-Chancellor and Founder of the university, Mr. Paul Odili, in his remarks, expressed satisfaction with the successful matriculation ceremony and encouraged parents to enrol their children in the institution.

“We can remodel your children and prepare them for the future. We are ready to bring to the world a different set of tomorrow’s champions,” he said.

The former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, in his remarks, said he was not surprised with the successes the school has recorded in the few years of establishment.

He asked the students to take advantage of the state-of-the-art equipments in the school to acquire quality education and skills that would make them relevant in the global discussions.
