Stakeholders, including the Integrated Child Survival Advocacy at the Last Mile (ICSA) project, supported by the Gates Foundation, NANA Girls and Women Empowerments Initiatives, have reaffirmed their commitment to the child’s survival rate in Kebbi State.

Executive Director of Nana Girls and Women Empowerment Initiative, Dr. Fatima Adamu, while speaking at a meeting on the Integrated Child Survival Advocacy (ICSA) Project, held in Birnin Kebbi with other major stakeholders, stated that the child survival in the state depends on the implications of the planned actions.

Adamu explained: “The project is designed to improve child survival outcomes through strong collaboration with relevant ministries and stakeholders. We convened this meeting to formally introduce the programme and seek collective partnership for its successful implementation.

“This meeting marks a major step toward improving child survival and healthcare services in Kebbi State. I believe strongly as our stakeholders. You are all committed to working together to achieve the goals of the Integrated Child Survival Advocacy Project’.”

She added that the development partners are to align on policy coherence, financing, service delivery and accountability, and to reaffirm commitments to community-level actions that reduce preventable maternal and child deaths.

According to her, “Together with civil society partners CWINS and ACOMIN, we are advancing advocacy that ensures health policies to move from paper to practice, strengthening immunisation, malaria prevention, nutrition services and primary healthcare where they matter most at the community level”. She added that their motive aligns with the Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Health Agenda and reinforces the power of community-driven accountability in achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030.

The Chairman of the meeting, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Health, Sama’ila Yakubu Augie, who was represented by the Director of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Jibril Labbo Gwandu, reaffirmed the Ministry of Health’s commitment to supporting the initiative in addressing malaria, malnutrition, maternal health challenges, and child birth complications across the state. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Dutsinmari, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Aisha Muhammad Maikurata, also pledged the ministry’s support for the project.
