The United States has announced visa restrictions on South Sudanese government members and others hindering humanitarian aid delivery.
The State Department cited the imposition of taxes on aid shipments as a key obstacle.
South Sudan, grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis stemming from conflict, natural disasters, and poverty, has faced criticism for impeding aid efforts.

Despite assurances, the government has yet to effectively reduce the unacceptably high costs, bureaucratic obstacles, and risks of providing humanitarian assistance,” stated State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.
The UN has reported that South Sudanese authorities are delaying fuel tankers due to a tax dispute, jeopardizing aid delivery. Miller expressed concern about the government’s commitment to facilitating humanitarian assistance, as outlined in the 2018 peace agreement.
The visa restrictions will prevent targeted individuals from entering the United States.
