South-South Safety Conference 2025 honours Dangote, Sanwo-Olu, Wike, 20 others

The 2025 South-South Industrial and Transport Safety Conference and Award Ceremony celebrated leading public figures and corporate institutions for outstanding contributions to industrial, occupational, maritime, and transport safety across Nigeria.

Held at the Prof. Chike Edozie Hall, State Government Secretariat, Asaba, the event brought together dignitaries, regulators, industry executives, safety experts, government officials, logistics companies, maritime institutions, oil and gas leaders, manufacturing organisations, and enforcement agencies.

Organised by the Joint National Transport Safety Committee of Nigeria (JNTSCN), the South-South Industrial and Transport Safety Hub, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment (South-South Zonal Office), Delta State Government, and other national safety hubs, the event highlighted excellence in leadership, corporate compliance, and safety innovation.

Notable recipients of the Outstanding Distinguished Leadership Safety Personality of the Year Award included Alhaji Aliko Dangote, H.E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, H.E. Nyesom Wike, H.E. Hope Uzodinma, H.E. Abba Kabir Yusuf, IGP Dr. Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and H.E. Peter Mbah. Corporate and sectoral awards recognised organisations such as Maton Engineering Nigeria Ltd, Hitech Construction Co. Ltd, Geregu Power Plc, TSL Logistics Ltd, BHN Transport & Logistics Ltd, TICT – Tin-Can Island Container Terminal, Guinness Nigeria Plc, Nestlé Nigeria Plc, and First City Monument Bank (FCMB), among others.

In his keynote address, Amb. Mogbojuri Taiwo Oluwadamilare, National Executive Chairman of JNTSCN, emphasised the need for structured national safety frameworks, standard operating procedures, and stakeholder-driven reforms to reduce industrial accidents, modernise transport systems, and promote a culture of safety education across Nigeria.

Representing the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to industrial and transport safety, describing regulation as “a development priority and non-negotiable national obligation.” The conference concluded with a renewed commitment to public-private collaboration to eliminate workplace injuries, strengthen compliance, and improve national safety standards.
