There are indications that Governor Aminu Tambuwal is inching towards clinching victory in the Sokoto rerun election having won the majority of votes cast before INCE halted collation of results promising to resume at 9am today.
Our correspondent reports that the state returning officer, Fatima Mukhtar, halted the collation of results promising to resume the exercise at 9am.
She made the announcement after briefly discussing with Amina Zakari, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
According to information gathered, the postponement was said to be due to the non-arrival of results expected from Kebbe Local Government Area.
Her action, it was noted sparked off protests from the supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who feared that the move was a subtle plot to subvert the will of the people and declare the result in favour of the opposition candidate.
Meanwhile, Governor Tambuwal is leading his closest rival, Aliyu Ahmed, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the results so far collated and declared from 21 LGAs of the state. He was said to be ahead with 10,499 votes while his opponent had scored Ahmed of the APC had scored 10,338.
