The Sokoto State Government has approved a technical amendment to the 2025 budget, reallocating ₦38.81 billion from underutilised areas to critical sectors to drive stronger performance.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Development, Dr. Abubakar Zayanna, who briefed journalists after Tuesday’s State Executive Council meeting, said the review was aimed at creating a more realistic and intentional budgeting system that ensures every naira works for the people.
He said that while the ₦526.88 billion budget size remains unchanged, the reallocation was necessary to address emerging priorities and align with public financial management provisions.
“All we did was move funds from one code to another. We removed expenditure lines tied to capital receipts that were unlikely to materialise and increased allocations in areas where revenues over-performed.”
“This adjustment will help us achieve 70–80 percent budget performance by year-end.”

The commissioner noted that the move would prevent resources from being tied down in dormant projects, allowing urgent needs to be addressed swiftly.
Meanwhile, the council also approved the rehabilitation of Ali-Akilu Road and Abdullahi Podi Road to tackle flood damage and improve drainage in affected parts of Sokoto metropolis.
“These interventions will bring relief to residents and prevent further environmental and infrastructural challenges caused by heavy rains,” the council stated.
The amended budget proposal will now be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for legislative approval before implementation.
