The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Sokoto East, Alhaji Umar Ajiya, has visited residents of Dinawa community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State affected by a recent bandit attack.
The APC senatorial candidate visited the communities to condole with families who lost loved ones and sympathise with residents who sustained injuries during the attack.
The visit came days after armed bandits reportedly attacked the community, leaving residents traumatised and deepening concerns over the security situation in parts of the state.
The senatorial candidate was accompanied by the APC Deputy Chairman for Sokoto East, Alhaji Musu Sarkin Alaru, as well as other party leaders and stakeholders drawn from different parts of the senatorial district.
During the visit, Ajiya expressed sympathy with the affected families and urged them to remain steadfast despite the loss and hardship caused by the attack.
As part of his support for the victims, he donated bags of rice and cash assistance to families of those killed and residents who sustained injuries.
He said the gesture was intended to provide some relief to the affected families as they cope with the loss of their loved ones and the difficult circumstances arising from the attack.
Religious scholars who accompanied the delegation also offered special prayers for the repose of the souls of those who died and for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The clerics further prayed for an end to banditry and other forms of insecurity in Sokoto State and across Nigeria, calling for lasting peace and protection for vulnerable communities.
Community members expressed appreciation for the visit and assistance, saying the gesture offered them emotional and material support at a difficult time.
The visit is part of growing efforts by political, religious and community leaders in Sokoto to engage with communities affected by insecurity and provide support to victims of attacks.
