The Sokoto State government has invested in irrigation infrastructure as part of a broader strategy to combat unemployment and stimulate economic growth in the state.
The government has distributed farm inputs, including pumping machines, grinding machines, and fertiliser, to 91 communities across the 23 local government areas of the state.
During the distribution on Saturday, Governor Ahmed Aliyu said that the programme is a continuation of many other initiatives his administration has introduced to boost food production and reduce poverty, especially in rural areas. He said his administration will continue to come up with such programmes in order to reduce poverty and redundancy among the teeming youths in the state. The governor urged the beneficiaries to utilise the equipment judiciously, ensuring that they serve their intended purpose and yield the desired impact.

The distribution of farm equipment coincided with the provision of cash and food assistance to religious scholars (Malaman Zaure) in the state. During the distribution, the governor announced ongoing improvements to mosques across the state, financial support for religious leaders, and the revitalisation of the state Hisbah Board.
According to him, this is not the first time that his administration is embarking on such a noble cause.
“Last year, we extended similar support, and by the grace of Allah, we shall continue to do so in the years to come. Our government has made significant strides in promoting Islamic affairs and Da’awa,” he stated.
He said the assistance is in addition to the monthly financial support provided to over 90 Jumu’at mosques, aimed at ensuring the sustainability of comfort in places of worship. Aliyu said his administration has embarked on the remodelling of Jumu’at mosques across the state in accordance with the teachings of Islam, to tidy and make masjids cleaner and more beautiful than our homes.
