Smart Gas Petroleum Ltd yesterday, in Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA of Mushin, advocated for cleanliness of the environment with a campaign theme, “Trash for Gas”.

In collaboration with Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA of Mushin, the campaign kicked off at No. 2, Imoru Street, Mushin, and was attended by residents of the area in their hundreds, and were given pre-filled gas cylinders in exchange for empty bottle plastic wastes and other household wastes.

Speaking at the event, the CEO, Smart Gas Petroleum Ltd., Dr. Yinka Opeke, remarked that it was a wake-up call to make sure the environment was clean and to raise an awareness on plastic recycling.

While calling on them to know that it was not a government duty to make sure our environment was clean and to know it was the residents’ primary responsibility to keep the environment clean, and once the environment was clean they would be the first beneficially.

“As they say, ‘Cleanliness is second to godliness, and prevention is better than cure. It is a global conversation which is ongoing right now, as a result of climate change,” said Opeke.

Opeke  encouraged residents to stop using firewood, and kerosine for health sake, and, because of the hazard involved.  She said, “Give us your trash and we give you our gas.”

On why she was partnering with the LCDA, she said,  “The essence of partnering with the local government is because they are the ones that know the people and can easily get to them.”
