Lagos-based fashion brand SleyCrafts Fashion Ltd is turning heads again with the release of its latest collection, *Angels’ Cadets*, unveiled on October 18, 2021. Under the creative direction of Mercy John Otisi, a product designer and garment constructor, the brand continues to explore texture, proportion, and form while creating pieces that are both bold and wearable.
One of the standout looks is a lace and Ankara shorts set that combines fitted tailoring with relaxed draping. The design demonstrates Mercy’s eye for contrast, though there are slight inconsistencies in the hip-to-thigh proportions that slightly affect the overall fit. Another highlight is a high-low skirt that balances volume and flow elegantly. The waist fits precisely and the cascading hemline moves gracefully, showing careful attention to stitch execution. The pleats are crisp, and the hemline is neatly finished, although some inner seams are less polished, with visible serging in certain areas. A cleaner binding technique would have enhanced the overall finish.
Material choice remains one of the collection’s strongest points. The lace feels delicate yet structured, while the Ankara provides weight and durability that anchors the more fragile components. The collection’s branding, including labels and size tags, functions well but could benefit from an elevated touch, such as embroidered tags, to reinforce the brand’s identity.
Mercy’s illustrative vision is evident throughout *Angels’ Cadets*. The pleating and drape of the high-low skirt reflect her original sketches closely, though front-facing proportions could be refined for a sleeker look. Overall, the collection demonstrates SleyCrafts Fashion Ltd’s capacity to create statement pieces while highlighting the need for precision in construction.
