Six Super Falcons players’ luggage finally in Lagos after long delay

The luggage belonging to six Super Falcons players has finally arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, after being stranded in Morocco for three weeks, according to reports TheAthleticNG.

The bags, which belong to Rasheedat Ajibade, Ifeoma Onumonu, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Deborah Abiodun, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Toni Payne, are now stored at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) cargo section of Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

The luggage arrived on Sunday, as reported by journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.

The issue began when ValueJet, the airline that brought the Falcons home following their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) victory in July, reportedly restricted the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to a maximum of 60 bags.

The Super Falcons famously defeated the host nation, Morocco, 3–2 in a dramatic final to claim their 10th continental title.

While the arrival of the luggage in Lagos is a positive development, there are still questions about how and when the bags will be delivered to the players, many of whom have already returned to their clubs in Europe, Asia, and America.

In recognition of their achievement, President Bola Tinubu conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each player. Additionally, each player received a three-bedroom apartment at the Renewed Hope Estate in Abuja and a cash reward of $100,000. Members of the technical crew were also awarded $50,000 each.
