Rising Kenyan songstress Maya Amolo continues her ascent in the African music landscape with the release of her sophomore album, The Sweetest Time.

Welcomed with glowing praise and early critical acclaim, the project offers a deeply reflective journey through love’s emotional highs and lows, wrapped in Maya’s signature blend of melodies, emotive vocals, and heartfelt storytelling.

Maya’s sound—rooted in alternative R&B with afro-pop undertones—explores life’s intricacies with remarkable softness and clarity. Her sugary vocals, lush harmonies, and intimate writing have earned her an international following, alongside strong homegrown support from East Africa’s creative community.

In The Sweetest Time, Maya steps beyond traditional notions of sweetness to examine its many layers: bittersweet memories, sweet revenge, decadent romance, and everything in between. Each track represents a distinct chapter, offering raw, honest reflections on love in all its complexity. The album serves as a window into her creative mind—an immersive collection of thoughts, emotions, influences, and flavours. It is a soundtrack for anyone who has loved deeply, hurt deeply, and found the strength to heal.

Since debuting with the ethereal “I Know” in 2020, Maya has refined her exploration of love, self-sabotage, and fidelity, transforming familiar R&B patterns with grooves inspired by her life in Nairobi. The Sweetest Time traces the full arc of romantic experience—from the rush of infatuation and warmth of connection, to stability, betrayal, and finally, restoration.

As a singer-songwriter and producer, Maya’s rising profile has earned her recognition from tastemaker platforms including NPR, The Native Mag, OkayAfrica, Harmattan Rain, and TANGAZA Magazine. She was selected as Spotify Africa’s inaugural Fresh Finds artist in March 2022, took part in Spotify and COLORSxSTUDIOS’ first African writing camp (Tantalizers Sessions) in 2023, and was named Apple Music’s East Africa Up Next artist later that same year.

The album features standout collaborations with talents like Ywaya Tajiri, Nigerian alté artist AYLØ, Albeezy, and Tai Dai.

The Sweetest Time is now available on all streaming platforms.
