Showunmi vows to resurrect Kashamu’s structure for Tinubu’s re-election

The Convener of The Alternative Movement, Segun Showunmi, has declared his intention to resurrect the political structure of the late Senator Buruji Kashamu to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Showunmi made the declaration on Saturday at a grassroots stakeholders’ meeting held at Isale-Itoko, Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

He said he had taken it upon himself as a grassroots leader to mobilise his structure across Ogun State and the South-West in support of Tinubu, arguing that the President’s economic policies were moving the country in the right direction.

“I will enter Ijebu and bring my very massive and humongous structure that the PDP, especially under the supervision and inspiration of the late Buruji Kashamu, the son of Olumọdu — may God continue to rest his soul — had built.

“We will go and raise that structure and tell them that it has to be Bola Tinubu and nothing else,” Showunmi said.

The PDP chieftain said he had, for the past year, maintained that Tinubu’s policies were on the right path, claiming that unlike in previous years when governments complained about lack of funds, there was now money at the local, state and federal levels to drive development.

He also argued that Nigeria should respect what he described as the “principle of the pendulum”, saying political power should be allowed to complete its cycle in the South.

“If it is the time of the North, they should bring us a candidate we will take. If it is the time of the South, they should give us a candidate we will take,” he said.

Showunmi disclosed that he had already empowered his grassroots coordinators to commence polling-unit mobilisation, adding that he would soon inaugurate local government structures across the six local government areas in Ogun Central before extending the exercise to Ogun East and other zones.

He urged people in the South-West to ensure the region delivered strong electoral support for Tinubu in 2027, warning that it would be embarrassing if the North-East, North-West and North-Central produced more votes for the President than the South-West.
