No fewer than 500 widows and other indigent women in Ugwulangwu community, Ohaozara Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, have received food support to alleviate hunger and extreme poverty in the community.
The benefactors, Ezeokechima Pacesetters Association (EPA) which distributed N15million worth of rice in the community also built 15 houses for the less privileged in the area.
Media Director of the association, Chief Uneke Paul, further disclosed that the association had been involved in the wellbeing of members of the community including sponsoring health outreaches and major surgeries of patients there: “We have done exceedingly well in our community. We have built over 15 houses for the less privileged and the downtrodden.
“We visit hospitals almost in two different occasions per year. We have done 32 major surgeries.
“This time around, we thought it very important for us to look at the extreme hunger within our people.
“We decided to invest over N15million to make sure that we provide little food base on our ability and we wish that we will do more as time goes on to make sure that the issue of hunger in Ugwulangwu Ezeokechima Community is a bygone story.”
Also, Chairman of the group’s Board of Trustees, Prince Nwigwe Chibuzo explained that it was important that people found a way of helping the needy by sharing what they had: “We all know there is problem in food security, there is scarcity of food. This pushed us to go into this food sharing.
“So, this year, we said we will not only focus on medical outreach, we will diversify by sharing food items to alleviate the hunger and poverty in the land.”
