It was shocking spectacle yesterday in Lagos when a 10-year-old boy strangled another boy of same age to death at  Ejigbo area of the city.

The people of the area are still surprised at the development, with some currently in disbelief that the strength of the little boy might not have been natural.

It was gathered that the deceased, Israel Ogunleye, visited his mother’s shop at Oluwole Street, Powerline, Ejigbo, and later decided to play football with other children in the area, while waiting for her mother to close for the day.

It was further gathered that while the progressed with the game, an argument ensued between Ogunleye and the suspect, Ezekiel Evbota, which snowballed into a fight, forcing Evbota to hold Ogunleye in the neck and continued to strangle him until he died.

According to a source, other kids playing football could not believe what they saw as they tried in vain to revive Ogunleye who remained motionless until the police arrived at the scene forcing everyone to flee.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (FPRO), SP Benjamin, said the deceased’s father reported the case to Ejigbo Police, prompting the Divisional Police Officer to deploy detectives to the area.

The PPRO said photographs were taken by the detectives who arrested the suspect and later took the victim to Isolo General Hospital, where he was  confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.

Hundyin added: “The body was transferred to the mortuary for post mortem examination. The suspect is in our custody while investigation is ongoing.”
