From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja
Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja Friday to represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Guinea-Conakry’s President-elect Mamadi Doumbouya, before heading to Switzerland for the 56th World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
In a statement released by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, Vice President Shettima will attend Saturday’s ceremony at GLC Stadium in Nongo, Conakry, pushing Nigeria’s pivotal role in ECOWAS as Guinea returns to constitutional rule after a four-year transition.
The trip also eyes boosting bilateral trade, with Nigerian exports—especially manufactured goods and agricultural products—to Guinea recently surging to $3.29 million.
From Conakry, Shettima will proceed to Davos-Klosters for the WEF 2026 Annual Meeting (January 19-23), themed “A Spirit of Dialogue.” The gathering unites global leaders from government, business, civil society, science, and culture to tackle frontier technologies like AI, quantum computing, biotech, and advanced energy systems.
Nkwocha highlighted the stakes: “Key deliberations will focus on responsibly deploying these innovations to unlock growth engines, expand access in emerging markets, invest in workforce skills, and drive sustainable, equitable development.”
