Vice President Kashim Shettima has welcomed the proposal from Schoolnet India Ltd and Learnet Skills Ltd to introduce their KYAN smart class solutions in Nigerian schools, emphasising the transformative potential of digital learning tools for primary and secondary education.
During a meeting on Monday with the Schoolnet delegation, led by Managing Director and CEO RCM Reddy, the Vice President praised the initiative as a robust and adaptable education package that could significantly enhance teaching and learning if customised with Nigerian local content.
“The beauty of KYAN is that it is a very rugged machine. You can use one card to teach 70 students. If you are to buy a tablet per student, the highest you will target are higher institutions or senior secondary school,” Shettima said.
He expressed particular interest in scaling the technology for younger students, “I am more interested in your package for primary schools and secondary schools like you did in Borno.”
He suggested leveraging artificial intelligence to tailor the learning package to Nigeria’s diverse linguistic and curriculum needs. “Honestly speaking, the Indian version of English is different from our own. Maybe you can use AI to customize it to our own local curriculum.”
Recalling his experience as Governor of Borno State where the KYAN system was successfully deployed, Shettima highlighted the capability of integrating such innovations with ongoing smart school projects in Edo and Enugu states. He believes a domesticated version could spark revolutionary improvements in Nigeria’s education system.
Reddy, earlier described the KYAN solution as a “school in a box” — an all-in-one smart classroom tool equipped with a projector, high-end computer, integrated camera, and digital content from grades 1 to 10. The system offers AI-powered learning where internet is available and preloaded content for offline use in remote areas.

“We are very committed to developing a solution customised for Nigeria. If used properly, with the entire ecosystem in place in a holistic manner, an average teacher will become a good teacher. A good teacher will become a very good teacher. A very good teacher can become a star teacher,” he assured, promising close collaboration with Nigerian officials to ensure the package fits local needs.
The Vice President directed the Schoolnet team to engage with federal government officials to examine how best to localize and scale the KYAN technology nationwide, aiming to bridge educational gaps and modernize classroom learning for Nigeria’s youth.
