Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Côte d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara for a historic fourth term in office.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan. Vice President Shettima will join other African leaders and dignitaries attending the event, according to a statement issued by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha.
Ouattara secured re-election on October 25, 2025, continuing his leadership of the West African nation. Côte d’Ivoire maintains strong diplomatic ties with Nigeria, collaborating extensively within regional bodies like ECOWAS and the African Union.
Both countries work together on security, trade, and development through formal mechanisms such as the Bi-National Commission and various bilateral agreements covering sectors including anti-trafficking, agriculture, and the digital economy.

The Vice President’s delegation includes ECOWAS Commission President Omar Aliyu Touray, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Abubakar Bello, and a House of Representatives member, Usman Zannah.

Shettima is expected to return to Abuja following the inauguration proceedings.
