Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, has commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his administration’s interventions in key sectors, saying the state is gradually witnessing meaningful development.
Shagari urged the people of the state to support the government’s development efforts.
He said the administration had made significant investments in education, agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure and social welfare, with the potential to improve the living conditions of residents.
“This administration has made significant investments in education, including the rehabilitation and upgrading of schools and the provision of essential learning facilities. These interventions will improve access to quality education and better prepare our young people for the future”
According to him, the government’s provision of fertilisers and pesticides to farmers would boost food production, strengthen rural livelihoods and promote food security, poverty reduction and economic empowerment in the state.
He said that sustained support for farmers would boost food production, strengthen rural livelihoods and contribute to Nigeria’s food security drive.
He acknowledged the administration’s efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and access to medical services, noting that a healthy population was essential to economic and social development.
He commended the government interventions in social welfare, particularly programmes targeting orphans, vulnerable persons and disadvantaged families.
On infrastructure, the former deputy governor said investments in roads, water supply, housing, markets, electricity and other critical facilities were helping to transform the state.
He said improved infrastructure would facilitate the movement of people and goods, stimulate economic activities and create opportunities for residents, particularly young people.
Shagari also commended the administration’s efforts in environmental sanitation, saying the Sokoto metropolis had recorded noticeable improvements in cleanliness.
He, however, urged residents to complement the government’s efforts by ensuring proper waste disposal, keeping their surroundings clean and protecting public infrastructure.
The former deputy governor called on the people of Sokoto to set aside political and other differences and support initiatives aimed at promoting development across the state.
“The development of Sokoto State is a collective responsibility. Government can initiate projects and programmes, but their sustainability depends largely on the cooperation and support of the people,” he said.
I urged residents to support the efforts in promoting peace and security, improve education and healthcare, expand economic opportunities and raise living standards.
He expressed confidence that continued commitment by the government, coupled with citizens’ cooperation, would enable Sokoto to achieve greater economic, social and infrastructural development.
