Sexual assault, culpable homicide top Borno Police arrests in 3 months

Sexual assault or Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV/), culpable homicide, shops and house breaking theft top the lists of 537 cases recorded in Borno State between July and September.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Yusufu revealed in a statistic released at a press briefing in Maiduguri, state capital on Monday.

According to the CP, 36 suspects were arrested for culpable homicide; a criminal act to cause death to another person, 30 Sexual Gender Base Violence (SGBV) suspects with 59 cases of shop/house breaking theft; the second highest recorded within the period.

He said a total of 339 suspects; the highest, were arrested for public nuisance and disturbance while five were apprehended for kidnapping.

He disclosed that the suspects were charged to court. A total of 250 person’s involving in the various cases have been convicted by the court whole 14 still await trials.

“This is possible as a result of the recently accented Borno State Penal Code Law 2023 and other
Related Matters therein law,” the CP disclosed.

He highlighted some of the cases including a 37 years old man who grabbed a 62 years old woman at a remote community in Shani Local Government, southern part of Borno and “forcefully had canal knowledge of her” and still stole N42,700 from her.

The command commended the people of the state for their security consciousness and timely report of useful information to the police, urging them to sustain the tempo.
