The National Coordinator of SERVICOM, the Federal Government’s service delivery initiative, Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli, has stressed the need for border communities to be provided with basic amenities and infrastructure.
Akajemeli, who was on an advocacy visit to the headquarters of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), said Nigerians living in border communities deserved equal treatment and provision of basic developmental facilities, as all other communities in the country.
She said: “Communities around the borders deserve equal access to public services, like any other community, because they are citizens of this country and they should also have a sense of nationhood.”
She enjoined management of the agency to work towards ensuring sustainable social economic and infrastructural development of the border communities in the country, as this would rekindle their patriotism and boost national security.
According to the SERVICOM boss, regular consultation with such communities would enable the agency to identify the actual needs of the people, in order of priority, adding that service standards should be in place and properly implemented.
While soliciting management’s support for the SERVICOM unit of the agency, she said members of the unit, who had been trained to add value to service delivery processes, should be more involved in core activities of the organization, especially on customer consultation, feed-back and complaints redressal.
