Senator Waku buried in Benue

The remains of Senator Joseph Waku were, yesterday, interred in his  Waku Adinya Village in Guma Local Government area of Benue State.

In his funeral oration, Governor Samuel Ortom eulogised Waku and described him as his late political mentor, and a truthful politician who accommodated both the low and high across political divide.

Ortom, who spoke during a requim mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish, North Bank, Makurdi, in honour of the deceased, noted that the late Senator Waku stood for truth, equity, justice, fairness, selflessness, forgiveness, reconciliation as well as love and unity.

The governor, who said Waku would be greatly missed advised those coming after the him to adopt his virtues as guiding principles, in order to be successful in their various endeavours.

In a homoly, Reverend Fr. Christopher Borogo, Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, described the deceased as a caring and loving father and husband, who stood for the truth in all situations.

Governor Ortom and his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Eunice Ortom, his deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu, among others, accompanied the bereaved family to the deserted country home of the deceased, Waku Adinya Village, where his remains were lowered into the grave at exactly 2:18p.m.

Roll call at the burial programme include Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, former senate president, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, former deputy senate president, Ibrahim Mantu, Director General, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu as well as former first Lady of Benue State, Mrs. Regina Akume, among other distinguished Nigerians.
