From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja
The Senator Representing Ebonyi South Senatorial zone, Professor Anthony Ani, has called for peace between Oso Edda in Edda Local Government Area and Amasiri, in Afikpo Local Government Area, both in Ebonyi State.
Oso Edda and Amasiri communities, which are part of Ebonyi South Senatorial zone, have been embroiled in a dispute over ownership of a farm land along their boundary area.
Ani, who spoke at a Constituency engagement, in his country home, in Onicha Igboeze, decried the hostility between the two warring communities, including the recent killing of a farmer in the area.
The Ebonyi senator, while noting that Amasiri and Edda have a lot in common and ought not be fighting each other, commended the state governor, Francis Nwaifuru, for his efforts to resolve the conflict.
According to him, “the crisis does not augur well for peace and development in that area. I had my secondary education at Government College Owutu, and I can recall the peace, love and deep brotherly love that existed between Edda people and Amasiri in those days.
“I want such love to come back because Edda people and Amasiri are one people, and they share a lot common.”
Ani, who also distributed fertilizers to farmers in the senatorial zone, during the engagement, said since assumption of office, he has been working hard to empower his constituents.
“Apart from the empowerment which reached all the wards in Ebonyi South zone where I distributed motorcycles and other items, I have followed it up with more empowerments in April this year and will organize another one soon.
“I have also facilitated the employment of many of Ebonyi South constituents in federal agencies and parastatals. My Senior Legislative Aide is aware of my efforts and at the appropriate time we shall release the statistics across the five LGAs of Ebonyi South,” he stated.
The Senator expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru and the Minister of Works, Chief David Umahi, and the people of Ebonyi South for their confidence in him and promised to continue to do his best in his representation of the zone.
