Senate confirms Oyewole as Justice of the S’Court

Senate

From Adesuwa Tsan, Abuja

The Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of Joseph Oyewole (JCA) as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

Until his elevation, Justice Oyewole was the presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division.

In a letter to the Senate last week, Tinubu urged the Senate to “consider and confirm the nomination expeditiously.” The approval followed the consideration and approval of recommendations of a report by the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters in the Committee of the Whole yesterday.

Chairman of the committee, Adegbonmire Ayodele, prayed the senators to approve its recommendation, having done due diligence on the candidate and not finding him wanting in any way.

In his comments after the Senate reverted to plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio charged Oyewole to discharge his duties faithfully and ensure that justice is served to the common man and even to the Senate.

He also commended the president for finding a square peg for a square hole without any dent, thereby making it easy for the Senate to confirm him.
