Beneficiaries of the agriculture empowerment equipment donated by the Yobe State government under the state’s Agricultural Empowerment Programme have been warned against diverting or selling the items.
The state Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Alhaji Usman Ngari, who read the riot act to the farmers yesterday in Damaturu, said any member found involved in selling or diverting the equipment would be sanctioned.
The state government had recently distributed various mini and heavy farm machinery free to 5,340 farmers under its Agricultural Empowerment Programme with the aim of enhancing agricultural productivity, ensuring food security and stimulating the economic growth of the state as well as the country.
He said, “it is a fact that the state government already has the profiles, including BVN, of all beneficiaries and had warned that it would prosecute farmers and their accomplices, who sell or divert these equipment.
“At our level, we will also sanction anyone involved in this act of sabotage to the government’s efforts toward agricultural development of our state.”
The chairman charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the equipment and also allow other farmers in their areas to use them so that greater number of farmers would benefit from the scheme.
