The Presidency has appealed to residents and religious groups in Kwara and Kogi states to temporarily suspend Ori Oke prayer meetings because of rising security concerns.

In a statement by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the North Central, signed by Abiodun Essiet, urged worshippers to avoid holding prayers on mountains and in forests. It noted that those locations have increasingly become hideouts for bandits and criminal elements.

“God is omnipotent and can be worshipped anywhere,” the statement said, adding that “congregating in remote areas is now exposing worshippers and surrounding communities to unnecessary risk.”

The Presidency called on citizens to support and cooperate with security agencies working to sustain peace and protect lives across the North Central region.

“We appeal to all residents and religious leaders in Kwara and Kogi to temporarily suspend Ori Oke gatherings until the security situation stabilises. Our security agencies are working tirelessly; your cooperation will help safeguard communities and reduce opportunities for criminal activity.”

The Office stressed that the suspension is a precautionary measure aimed at protecting lives and allowing security forces to restore safe conditions in affected areas. It advised faith leaders to consider alternative, safer venues for communal worship and to keep congregations informed of safety updates from local authorities.

It thanked residents for their understanding and reiterated the need for collective vigilance. “Please support our security personnel with timely information and avoid places that could be exploited by criminals. Together we can maintain peace and protect our communities,” the statement said.
