Leaders of the kidnap gang who abducted the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of the Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), Prof Godwin Emezue, have been arrested.

Abia State governor, Dr Alex Otti disclosed this in Umuahia during his monthly media chat with journalists at the Government House, Umuahia.

The governor disclosed that the leader of the gang was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos while trying to board a flight to Turkey, while the second mastermind was arrested in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The governor, who stated that the two had since been returned to Abia State to answer for their crimes, added that the arrest was made possible by the efforts of the Operation Crush, a joint security team set up by his administration, to crush criminal activities in the state.

Otti explained that he has been utilizing security votes of his office to secure the state in line with his campaign promises, stressing that though the cost of maintaining lives and safety of Abia residents have been financially high, he assured of his sustained efforts to that effect.

On the question of whether he would accept members of the opposition parties in the state to LP if they decamp, Otti said that the doors of the Labour Party would not be closed against the members of the opposition party who wish to cross-carpet.

He, however, stated that the good governance enjoyed by the people of the state  cannot be changed or negatively affected by the entrance of people from the opposition political parties.
