In Borno State, soldiers from Operation Hadin Kai have seized N37 million and multiple cell phones that may be connected to the funding of terrorism.

The north-east joint task force’s media information officer, Sani Uba, said in a statement on Monday that the recovery took place near the forward operating base (FOB) Chabbal checkpoint.

According to Uba, when troops pulled down a car carrying three men and two women, they found almost N37 million hidden in bags.

He stated that many cell phones that were thought to be linked to terrorist financing and coordination were also found on the suspects.

The interception is a part of continuous attempts to break up financial networks that support rebel operations in the northeast, he said.

Along a recognized crossing route used by ISWAP members travelling from Cameroon into Nigeria, Uba alleged that sector 1 troops, collaborating with vigilante groups, conducted a nighttime ambush.

He went on to say that the militants fled and left behind logistics supplies they thought were intended for their activities after encountering the firepower of the troops.

He claimed that the actions were taken to obstruct the financial and physical networks of terrorist organizations active in the area.

Uba stated that the troops’ professionalism and alertness were praised by the military high command and that Operation Hadin Kai is still dedicated to bringing peace and security back to the northeast.
