An Abuja- based security consultant, Chief Oluwole Adedeji yesterday said efforts should be made to involve people at the grassroots in fighting insecurity in the country.

Adedeji, the Jagunmolu Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland and Chief Executive Officer, Virgo Global Security Service, said the level of kidnapping and killings in the country have generated a lot of concern, insisting that the Federal Government needs to do more in ensuring effective security across the country.

Adedeji pointed out that it was unfortunate that the South West has become a haven for kidnappers and killers that have been making lives unbearable for the people.

He frowned at the gruesome murder of two traditional rulers in Ekiti and one from Kwara states, urging South-West governors to look into the various alternatives presented to them by the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, in their efforts to combat insecurity.

“There is a better approach that could help in addressing the security deficit in Yoruba land. Iba Gani Adams recently challenged the governors of the South-West to give him a six-month time frame, adding that the spate of insecurity in the region would reduce drastically,” he stated.

Recalling how Aare Gani Adams was instrumental to the arrest of an alleged kidnap kingpin, Iskilu Wakil, in Igangan area of Oyo State, Adedeji noted: “This is a big challenge to the governors. I believe it is time for them to look inwards and see how they can involve the Yoruba generalissimo in fighting the scourge. I am calling on the six governors in the South-West to rise to this challenge and do what is expected of them as the Chief Security Officers of their respective states. They should involve people at the grassroots in terms of information gathering and strategy. That is a major factor in ensuring effective security across the country.”
