Scores of commuters escaped death by whiskers in the early hours of Thursday as a cargo laden 40ft container fell off a truck in Lagos.

The incident happened at the popular Ago Palace roundabout, Amuwo Odofin Local Government during the peak period of the day.

However, it was gathered that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police were around to maintain the order and control traffic after the incident, as  mechanism for evacuation arrived.

Speaking to our correspondent, an eyewitness, Felix Adeniyi, blamed potholes on the  roads for the incident.

According to him, the presence of the security agencies helped to control traffic that resulted after the incident.

“Imagine, if it were to be a time when there was heavy traffic, the situation would have been so bad and many people would have been injured, killed and vehicles destroyed. Government should do more to rehabilitate the bad portions on the Apapa -Oshodi exprtessway to avert disasters like this.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, needs to sit up and do some palliatives on these roads. If not for God, who knows how many innocent souls would have gone today? The road needs urgent repair,” he added.
