Residents of Igbusi, Ogan, Abata, Odobada, Ojusango and other communities in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, have urged the state government to ratify their residential buildings instead of demolishing over 4,000 houses.
The communities made the call in a petition submitted to the House of Assembly through the Deputy Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo.
According to the petition, the state government had planned to demolish the houses after it acquired the land on which they were erected.
Presenting the petition to the House, Oluomo explained if ratification was granted, it would save over 4,000 residential buildings from being pulled down, noting the affected landlords, whose land fell under government acquisition had allegedly purchased their land from the then village extension.
Meanwhile, screening of retired primary school teachers and pre-1991 retired teachers in Ogun State local governments will begin today.
In a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pension, Mrs. Irene Kokumo, the exercise expected to on June 29, would be held across the 20 councils and 37 local council development areas at designated centres.
