Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has installed Ibrahim Olasunkanmi Lawal as new king of Isheri Olofin Kingdom following the demised of Wahab Ayinde Balogun, who died February 8, 2022 at age 94.
The governor, who was represented by commissioner for Local Government And Chieftancy Affairs, Bolaji Kayode Robert, installed the monarch by handling him the scepter of authority at the installation ceremony which was held December 11, 2024 at Egbe Idimu Local Government Secretariat, Isheri Olofin, Lagos.
Welcoming the new king before other monarchs and well wishers, Kayode hinted all hands will be on deck to ensure Olasunkanmi promote the unity and culture of the land. He however urged the king to imbibe peace and unity in his bid to fasten the development of his kingdom.
“ This ceremony marks magnificent milestone in the history of Isheri Olofin Kingdom and I’m delighted to be part of it. I’m thanking Sanwo-Olu for his kind approval and for creating strong principle ahead of this event. It is this duo process that has guarantee the fairness which has resulted in the selection and acceptance of Ibrahim Olasunkanmi Lawal Bello, as the oba of Isheri Olofin. I’ll like to thank members of the Royal family and the Olanwa ruling house of Isheri kingdom for ensuring unity reigns during the selection of their king. On behalf of the government of Lagos state and is good people, I want to congratulate the entire people of Isheri Olofin kingdom on this significant occasion. As we have all gathered today to celebrate the installation, let me also use this moment to remind us all of the vital role that Oba’s play in our communities.”
“ For century, Oba’s has been the custodian of our culture and unity. I’ll love to use this medium to urge the king to imbibe the spirit of unity. I’ll be glad seeing him work with both friends and foes for the development of our culture and heritage. I’ll also love to remind him he’s now the king of all living things in the community and I pray he receives wisdom to lead this great community to a greater height,” he stated.
Reacting to this in ecstasy, Olasunkanmi stated he won’t relent in his plan to make his kingdom cynosure of all eyes with his agenda which he believed will align with the plans of the state governor. The football enthusiast turned monarch, also appeal to the masses as he aim to emerge pace setter of enviable project capable of benefiting the indigenes.
In his words: “I’m urging everyone to believe in me for there’s a process I’ve set aside for the betterment of all. I won’t fail to ensure my plan align with that of the government of the day. As a young king, I’ve gotten lot of great programs for the youths and I won’t let the cat out of the bag until some of my project begins in grand style. Human capital development will also be my core project. It will run across sports, education, healthcare and host of others for I’m here to serve my people,” he assured.
Others who were present at the ceremony includes, Elegbeda of Egbeda, Oba Hammed Omogoriola Orelope-Laka, Onigando of Igando, Oba Lasisi Gbadebo Gbademosi, Oniba of Iba, Oba Sulaimon Raji and host of others.
