Samsung Electronics West Africa has unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8 in Nigeria, introducing what it described as its most advanced foldable smartphone lineup yet, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence (AI), productivity and immersive entertainment.

The launch, held in Lagos, also featured presentations by the Head of Mobile Experience at Samsung Electronics West Africa, Joy Tim-Ayoola; Head of Marketing Communications, Oge Maduagwu; and Product Manager, Mobile Experience, Stephen Okwara, who highlighted the new devices’ features and Samsung’s strategy for the Nigerian market.

Speaking at the event, Tim-Ayoola said the new Galaxy Z series represents Samsung’s continued commitment to innovation, offering consumers more choices with foldable devices tailored to different lifestyles and productivity needs.

According to her, the new lineup combines advanced hardware with Galaxy AI capabilities to help users work smarter, create content more easily and enjoy richer entertainment experiences.

“The Galaxy Z series opens a new chapter for foldable smartphones by delivering distinct experiences designed for productivity, immersive content consumption and self-expression,” she said.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces a redesigned form factor aimed at making the foldable experience more natural for everyday use. Weighing just 201 grams, Samsung says it is the lightest Galaxy Z Fold device yet.

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy and backed by a 4,800mAh battery, the Fold8 features a 10:16 cover display for quick interactions and a larger 4:3 main display designed for reading, gaming and video streaming.

Samsung also introduced its new Flex Titanium display technology, which uses a titanium-based structure to improve durability while reducing crease visibility and making the device thinner.

For photography enthusiasts, the Fold8 comes equipped with dual 50MP cameras, Dual Recording for simultaneous front and rear recording, and My FanCam, an AI-powered feature that automatically tracks subjects while recording videos.

The premium Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra targets professionals, creators and power users with an 8-inch foldable display, a slimmer 4.1mm unfolded profile and a weight of 215 grams.

Stephen Okwara, Product Manager for Mobile Experience, said the Fold8 Ultra delivers Samsung’s “Ultra” smartphone experience in a foldable format.

According to him, the device features a 200MP main camera with HDR support, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, enhanced Nightography capabilities and 8K video recording using the new APV codec for professional-quality content creation.

“The Fold8 Ultra is designed for users who demand maximum productivity and creativity from a single device,” Okwara said.

He added that the smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a larger 5,000mAh battery supported by Samsung’s new dual-path 45W fast charging technology and improved cooling system for sustained performance.

Artificial intelligence remains a central feature across the new lineup.

Samsung said Galaxy AI has been optimised for the larger foldable displays, introducing features such as Now Brief, which provides personalised daily insights; Now Nudge, which recommends context-aware actions during conversations; and enhanced Gemini Intelligence, capable of performing tasks across more than 40 supported applications.

The AI platform also includes Gemini Notebook, allowing users to organise notes, images, audio recordings and documents in one workspace while generating reports, summaries and other AI-assisted content.

Speaking at the launch, Oge Maduagwu, Head of Marketing Communications, said Samsung is committed to ensuring AI innovation is matched with strong security and privacy protections.

She explained that the devices are protected by Samsung Knox, Personal Data Engine, Knox Vault and a new AI Assistant Activity dashboard that gives users greater visibility and control over how AI features access and process personal information.

Samsung also announced that Nigerian customers can begin pre-ordering the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8 immediately.

The devices will be available in Graphite and Cream colour options, while the Fold8 Ultra also comes in Violet Shadow and the Fold8 in Lavender.

Customers purchasing the new foldables will receive a six-month free trial of Google AI Pro, including 5TB of cloud storage, alongside updated Smart Switch features that simplify migration from iOS and other devices.

Samsung also said buyers can enroll in Samsung Care+ for device protection, with customers purchasing through Samsung.com receiving the first three months of coverage free.
