Same-sex marriage: Islamic police arrest 25 suspects in Kano

Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board, at the weekend, arrested 25 suspects at the venue of a same-sex marriage ceremony in the state capital.

The Islamic police, acting on a tip-off, invaded the event centre which was located at Hotoro Bypass area and rounded up the suspects.

Known in local parlance as ‘Yan daudu’, it was gathered that the suspects came from different parts of the state capital, namely Ill Sheka, Yar Gaya, and Kofar Nasarawa areas, to rejoice with the celebrants.

The Deputy Commander General (Special Operations) of Hisbah Board, Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar, confirmed the arrest and gave a breakdown of the suspects to include 18 male and 7 female persons.

Abubakar, while recounting the circumstances surrounding the arrest, revealed that one Abubakar Idris was planning to tie the knot with another unnamed young man at the event centre when they were picked up.

Abubakar stressed that the whole activities at the time of the arrest was offensive to Islamic values and norms.

He disclosed that all suspects were currently in their custody and would be charged to court at the end of investigation.

He appealed to parents and guardians to instil sound moral values in their children and urged the public to report suspicious activities to Hisbah or other relevant authorities.

He reaffirmed Hisbah’s commitment to ensuring a morally upright society in the state.
