The Cross River State government and the Nigerian Army have reaffirmed their commitment to honouring the sacrifices made by gallant men and women who paid the ultimate price defending the country.
The annual Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day event, held at the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Calabar, brought together top government officials, senior military officers, and families of fallen heroes to pay tribute to their bravery and selflessness.
Speaking at the event, the Commander of the 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Patrick Alimikhena, clarified that the occasion is officially known as Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, not Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration as often misrepresented.
He emphasised that the day is set aside to honour the courage, sacrifice and selfless service of the fallen heroes, while also recognising the officers and men still serving the nation under difficult and dangerous conditions.
“The sacrifices of fallen service personnel are deeply etched not only in the nation’s history, but also in the hearts of their families, the communities they protected, and the soul of the nation,” he said.
