An eyewitness has revealed that the gunmen who killed Nigerian singer Sabi first demanded to see the manager before opening fire on the artist.

The witness, who was identified as a bar attendant at the scene, told Daily Sun that the incident occurred on Tuesday night at the singer’s motel in the Okun-Afon area of Badagry, Lagos State.

According to the account, the assailants had earlier engaged in a disagreement at the bar and demanded to speak with the person in charge.

The source said Sabi, who owns the establishment, stepped forward in response to the request, unaware of the danger. Moments later, the gunmen allegedly shot him at close range, leaving him fatally wounded, while the attendant fled for safety.

Police in the area were said to have responded after hearing gunshots, leading to the arrest of one suspect, while three others escaped. A locally made pistol was reportedly recovered from the apprehended individual.

The case was first handled by the police in Badagry before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Yaba for further investigation.

Sources also suggested that the attack may have stemmed from a case of mistaken identity linked to rival cult groups, though authorities have yet to confirm this.

Sabi, known for his song “Show Your Style”, was reportedly killed at his own establishment, with the attackers fleeing the scene with his mobile phone.

Further details are expected as investigations continue.
