Rotary International District 9111 has ushered in the 2026–2027 Rotary Year with the installation of Bukola Bakare as its District Governor.

The district formally announced the leadership transition and unveiled its goals for the new Rotary year at a briefing held at the Keystone Bank Hall, Rotary Centre, GRA, Lagos.

In her acceptance speech, Bakare said her administration would be driven by growth, innovation, unity and impactful service.

“This year is not about titles or positions; it is about impact. It is about touching lives, transforming communities, strengthening clubs, empowering members and ensuring Rotary remains relevant and visible in our society,” she said.

She noted that Rotary’s global work spans peace-building, disease prevention, maternal and child health, education, environmental sustainability and economic empowerment, adding that District 9111 would deepen its contributions.

Bakare said the district would prioritise membership growth, retention and support for The Rotary Foundation.

“Our target is to increase membership by 25 per cent and charter at least 20 new clubs before the end of the Rotary year,” she said.

Bakare stressed that membership expansion was about increasing Rotary’s reach and influence rather than merely growing numbers.

She urged clubs to intentionally attract and retain professionals, young leaders, business owners and community influencers through a culture of fellowship, mentorship, inclusiveness and innovation.

Bakare also announced a target of raising at least $700,000 for The Rotary Foundation, including a Day One challenge aimed at generating a minimum of $300,000.
