President of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Proença, has spoken about the controversy involving Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus.
Proença said Ronaldo could have ended his international career after the World Cup.
He explained that the federation expected to have enough time to address issues within the national team after the completion of the first four UEFA Nations League matches.
According to him, the period would provide an opportunity to assess the situation and resolve any issues involving the team.
Ronaldo recently became the centre of controversy after leaving Portugal’s training camp ahead of a Nations League fixture.
His departure was reportedly linked to a disagreement with Jesus, although the circumstances surrounding the incident have generated different reactions.
Proença’s comments come amid continued attention on Ronaldo’s future with the Portugal national team as preparations for the World Cup continue.
Addressing the press on Sunday, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, Proença said:
