Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo has etched his name deeper into football history, scoring his 40th international goal in World Cup qualifying to break the all-time record in Tuesday’s game against Hungary at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
The 40-year-old forward netted the equaliser in the 22nd minute off a Nelson Semedo assist, after Hungary had taken the lead through Attila Szalai in the eighth minute.
With the goal, Ronaldo broke a tie with former Guatemala player, Carlos Ruiz.

The al-Nassr striker grabbed a second on the stroke of halftime to help Portugal take the lead before Dominik Szoboszlai restored parity for Hungary in added time for a 2-2 draw.
Ronaldo now has 41 goals in 50 World Cup qualifiers.
Ronaldo now has 143 goals for Portugal, extending his own world record for international goals.
