Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, has found himself in fresh legal trouble in South Africa over a shooting-related incident in Johannesburg.
Court proceedings in Johannesburg revealed that the 29-year-old pleaded guilty to being in South Africa illegally and to pointing a firearm during a separate incident.
However, he denied allegations that he shot and seriously wounded his gardener following an altercation in the city’s upscale Hyde Park area.
The case also involves his cousin and co-accused, Tobias Mugabe Matonhodze, who pleaded guilty to attempted murder as well as violations of immigration and firearms laws.

Authorities said the firearm allegedly used in the shooting has not yet been recovered since both men were arrested on February 19.
Meanwhile, legal discussions around a possible plea and sentencing agreement reportedly collapsed at the last minute.
“We had initially engaged with the state with the intention of finalising a plea and sentencing agreement but those discussions collapsed at the last minute,” Mugabe’s counsel Sinenhlanhla Mnguni said.
The matter has been adjourned until April 24 for further proceedings, as the court continues to review the charges and evidence in the case.
