The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention in the Rivers State political crisis will finally bring an end to the disagreement between the executive and the legislature.
Speaking on the meeting with the President, Wike said the intervention was carried out in the interest of the people of the state.
“The President has been very kind to the people of the state,” he said.
He explained that the issue stemmed from disagreements between the governor and lawmakers, noting that presidential intervention was not originally necessary but had become unavoidable.
“If there seems to be a problem between the legislator and the governor, and as a father, he really had to intervene,” Wike said.
Wike disclosed that this was not the first time efforts had been made to resolve the crisis.
“I remember this is the second time Mr President is intervening,” he added.

He, however, expressed a strong belief that the latest intervention would be the last.
“I believe, by the grace of God, this will be the last time, I believe that” Wike said.
According to him, the legislature has now been guided on the need to follow due authority, adding that compliance would not be an issue.
“The assembly, I have told them to the needful, I have told them to obey Mr President, which I know they will not hesitate,” he said.
Wike also said he was confident that the governor would play his part in ensuring stability.
“And I also believe that the governor will carry out his own path,” he added.
He concluded by expressing certainty that the crisis had reached its end.
“So I’m very sure that this is the final time Reivers people will hear this kind of discord,” Wike added.
