The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Rivers State, has expelled a final-year student, Nora Onyewuenyi, over allegations that she published misleading content about her final-year project on social media.
The university said the student, who studied English and Literary Studies, made claims in a viral interview that her project topic was “Citizenship” and that her supervisor wrote the project for her.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Ngozi Okiridu, said the university’s Senate approved the expulsion over what it described as damaging content creation.
According to the university, Onyewuenyi later admitted that her claims were untrue and that she made them to generate content for social media.
The institution said it attempted to persuade her to retract the statements but that she declined.
Explaining the decision, the university said the action was intended to discourage other students from engaging in similar conduct.

The statement read, “The Senate has expelled Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora with Matriculation Number U/2022/19900, a final-year student of the Department of English and Literary Studies, over damaging content creation.
“The expulsion is to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to do the same.”
The university further recalled that the student had claimed in the widely circulated interview that her project was on citizenship, which it said was not a recognised project topic in the department.
It also disputed her claim that her supervisor had written the project on her behalf.
The institution described the content as harmful to its reputation and maintained that it would not tolerate such conduct from students.
