The Rivers State Police Command said it has arrested two of its personnel, who were captured in a viral video assaulting a man.
Also, the state Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, has condemned the officers’ assault and brutality of the main a video trending on the social media.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), disclosed this in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Iringe-Koko said the two police personnel were currently at the Command’s headquarters undergoing trial for their unprofessional act which would serve as deterrent to other police personnel.
However, the Police have appealed to the victim to come forward to the Public Relations Department, Rivers State Police Command, to give his own statement, so as to aid conclusion of the investigation, while assuring that his identity would be protected.
Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi, has assured members of the public, that the police operatives would be investigated in line with extant rules underlying the conduct of police personnel and appropriate sanctions meted accordingly.
Nwonyi added that the Command was committed to promoting the rule of law in course of its operation in Rivers State.
