The Rivers State Police Command said it has arrested five members of a suspected kidnapping syndicate during a coordinated operation in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state as part of its ongoing efforts to combat violent crime.
The Command’s spokesperson, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the arrests followed the operational directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, and were carried out by operatives of the Oyigbo Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to the statement, the suspects are Ezekiel Emmanuel, 44, from Benue State; Chukwuma Mbanefor, 51, from Anambra State; Nicholas Diala, 65, from Imo State; Ndubuisi Uwakwe, 49, from Abia State; and Ifeanyi Nwakwo, 51, from Imo State.
Kaborlo said investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in kidnapping activities and admitted participating in several operations in Kom-Kom, Railway, Obeama and Afam communities.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate.
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police as describing the operation as another demonstration of the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing in line with the operational directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.
Adepoju reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain aggressive operations against kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery and other violent crimes across Rivers State, warning that there would be no safe haven for kidnappers and other criminal elements.
He also assured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information that would assist the police in preventing crime and arresting offenders.
